How to Become a Better Leader

Leadership skills are important whether you’re running a business, managing a team, or teaching a class. Inspiring and leading people comes naturally to some people, but not to most of us.

The good news is that leadership is not a magical gift; it is a set of skills that can be learned and practiced. Some may find it more easily than others, but we can all achieve it. It’s just a matter of wanting it, working hard, and putting in the effort.

Regardless of where you are or what you do, here are 10 ways you can start becoming a better leader today:

We follow leaders because they inspire us to be our best.

Some characteristics of a leader are: Being able to figure things out, problem solving. Making activity and Action happen where there wasn’t any. Being independant, Consistent and seeing the Big Vision.

Here are 10 ways you can start becoming a better leader.

1. Learn and Grow your skills

You will never be the leader you want if you do not have the skills to lead. There is only one way to become a better leader, and that’s to improve your leadership skills, build expertise in your line of work, and figure out what leadership is for you.

2. Be part of the team

There is an acronym that says “team” stands for Together Everyone Achieves More. Great leadership comes from those who see themselves as part of a team, and who have no problem with rolling up their sleeves and doing what it takes to support, help, guide and mentor.

3. Show compassion, care and Lead with love.

Compassion bridges the gap between what you need, what your people want, and what you can give. It is the compassionate leaders who are typically the most admired.

We learned from the romans that, Love Conquers All. Love your people, love your organization and love those you serve, and you’ll have discovered the secret of great leadership.

4. Become an excellent communicator.

Focus on observing and listening to what’s going on around you. Great leaders are always excellent communicators – both as speakers and listeners. They stay focused and focused on the nuances in conversation.

5. Admit when you are wrong.

It takes strength and confidence to admit you’re wrong. Sometimes people think admitting you’re wrong is a sign of weakness, but the more honest and open you are as a leader, the more people will respect you as a leader.

6. Learn how to spot talent and Give credit where it's due

One of the biggest elements of great leadership is knowing how to connect with the right kind of people – those who can help you move your vision forward and develop effective strategies. It’s just as important to understand how people with different backgrounds and abilities can work together moving the organization forward.

It’s not uncommon for someone in a leadership position to claim credit for the work of others, but true leaders share credit with their team. They know that great accomplishments take a team and many talents.

7. Bond with your team

Great teams don’t just happen, but they’re created and it takes work. Great leaders take the time to get into the trenches and work with their teams to create the bonds that great teams share.

8. Be a mentor, not a preacher

People are interested in growth and development; they want to find out how they can improve and how they can find their own path. As a leader you have a responsibility to mentor, guide, and support people–not to boss them or preach to them.

9. Invest in your people

In order to be a great leader, you must start with what matters in your organization—and that is your people. People are the biggest asset to the team and organization. If you want them to be happy, engaged, loyal and dedicated, make the time to invest in them, nurture them, and provide them with a clear vision.

10. Have fun

The best leaders build excitement and fun, even though business is serious. Leaders are great at creating a positive culture and an enthusiastic environment: they understand how important it is to have fun while working hard.
